Environmental Policy

Introduction and aim

Toojiprint is a printing company operating from a site in Gloucester. Examples of our products are newsletters, brochures, business cards, variable data printed matter and other associated products. We recognise that our operations result in the generation of waste. It is our aim to reduce the environmental impacts of our business and to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This policy describes how we will achieve our aim.

Responsibility

The Director is responsible for ensuring that the policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.

Current Practice

Since our conception in 2006, we have implemented the following in our aim to reduce the environmental impacts of our business and to operate in an environmentally responsible manner:

  • By using London EDF, a ‘Green’ Electricity Supplier
  • Employing a Recycling Company to collect & recycle all paper waste on a weekly basis which is collected in special bins provided
  • Waste Management in practice - Incorporation of ‘Speedflow’ software into the pre-press process which checks all files and artwork for errors prior to printing thus eliminating the need for re-printing should a mistake be found and minimising the wastage of paper, ink & electricity
  • By ensuring staff switch off their PCs each night and by utilizing energy saving settings such as ‘sleep mode’ during the day
  • By the nature of Digital printing itself which is a clean process emitting no chemicals or bi-products.

Targets

To maintain our aims, we have set ourselves the following targets for forthcoming year:

  • Investigate the use of recycled packaging
  • Encourage the use of recycled paper in manufacturing by specifically targeting companies & agencies in which this would be most appropriate such as Environmental agencies & National Trusts etc.
  • Explore the possibility of recycling consumables for example, refilling of ink cartridges rather than disposal.
  • Define good housekeeping for paper and ink use, ensure all new employees receive training in good housekeeping and incorporate this training into the induction programme for new employees.

Monitoring and auditing

Our current practice ensures that progress against these objectives is an ongoing process.  Targets for the following year will be discussed in monthly management meetings and in our weekly ISO meetings, especially in the run up to preparation of ISO 14001.
